Miami crane accident injures many - 30/03/2008Falling debris from a collapsing crane killed two people, injured five others and smashed through a home used for storage.
The accident occurred to the side of a 40-plus-story luxury condo tower on Biscayne Bay.
David Martinez, 31, a pipe fitter, was on the fourth floor of the condo tower when the crash occurred.
"It was like a small earthquake," he said. "We looked outside, and we couldn't even see." It took several minutes for the dust to clear, Martinez said.
Out of the five people wounded, one was serious but the other four are believed to have made a full recovery. It remains to be seen if any of them, or the families of the deceased, will be making an accident claim but it seems likely.
Mary Costello, a senior vice president for Bovis Lend Lease Holdings Inc., which was managing the construction, said in a statement: “Our hearts are heavy at this moment for the two deceased individuals, including one of our own employees and the additional injured workers.”
