Soldier awarded compensation following injury - 26/11/2007A soldier has been awarded £25,000 in compensation following a training ground incident in which he suffered an injury.
Daniel Brosnan was discharged from the army for the dislocated right shoulder he suffered in the 2003 incident.
The 34-year-old was put in a police cell and told to "act like a psycho" for the exercise - fellow troops were to attempt to restrain him.
However, the exercise got out of hand and the injury was suffered when one of the other soldiers jumped on Mr Brosnan.
The settlement was reached between the claimant and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) before the case went to court.
Mr Brosnan's lawyer said: "It was a particularly bad dislocation to his dominant right shoulder. He was discharged by the MoD as a result and his choice of future employment will now be narrower.
"Mr Brosnan was taking part in a routine training exercise but was given no protective clothing and only minimal and inappropriate protective equipment, while the exercise was allowed to continue even after he was injured."
