MRSA compensation claimants hopeful after superbug screenings - 30/03/2008

Victims of the medical negligence that resulted in the hospital superbug MRSA are optimistic about receiving compensation now the superbug screening is to be introduced says a study by Imperial College, London.

Thousands are left affected by the bacterium each year, and most have difficulties proving it was due to the hospital they were in with hospital chiefs contending that the patients already had the bug.

In hope of slowing the epidemic, plans have been made by the government for the next year, for pre-patient screenings and emergency admissions may start screenings in the next three years.

This would mean that people who catch it would be more able to place claims having been given the all clear before entering the hospital.

Stephen Webber, a clinical negligence lawyer said: "If you had a clear swab before going in, it would definitely make it easier to make a successful claim."

It is always recommended you take an alcohol hand rub into a hospital, and if unsure ask clinical staff to use it before being in contact with you.
