Types of lung cancer
The most common types of lung cancer are small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer.
Small cell lung cancer is when the cells are small and round and non small lung cancer is when the cells are larger. In some cases the person may have both types of cancer developing called mixed small cell/large cell cancer. 80% of lung cancer falls under non small cell lung cancer with small cell lung cancer accounts for around 20%.

Treating lung cancer
People who have early lung cancer do not realise until the symptoms start showing. The symptoms are:
- Persistent coughing
- Chest pain
- Hoarseness
- Weight loss
- Bloody or rust coloured sputum
In many cases a simply x-ray would establish the extent of the damaged cells and catch symptoms early. This would later be followed by taking a sample of the tissue by performing a simple biopsy to confirm whether or not it's lung cancer.
