Claim Public Liability for Slips & Trips
There are hundreds of people tripping over uneven and damaged pavements every year, laid down or maintained by the local authority.
Under the Highways act of 1980 every local authority has a duty to make sure that pavements as well as roads are maintained regularly making them free from dangers. They must act upon any complaints made by the general public regarding lose or damaged paving within a certain tie period (this would depend upon your local authority).

How do I claim for Personal Injury?
Making a claim for tripping over pavement is simple as long as the right evidence is produced. For the claim to go through the first thing would be to measure the depth of the paving, it has to be at least 1 inch (25mm) deep. This is a legal rule but in some cases a lesser depth may be sufficient but to normal claims 1 inch is a must.
Produce photographs - This would be photographs of the paving taken from all angles, take photographs using a measuring tool (ruler). This would indicate the depth to the claims advisors and solicitors. Also have a photograph of the pavement with your foot next to it this may also help indicate the size in relation to your foot ware. You must do the photographs as soon as possible, if you are unwell always get others to do it for you, don't leave this too long as many accident scenes are later repaired taking away your chances of receiving compensation.
Your injuries - After the accident go to your local GP or to the hospital for an immediate check up. This is essential as the length of your recover does influence the amount of compensation you receive (the amount of compensation received is based upon all factors not only upon one).
How long do you have before claiming? - By law every claimant has three years before making a compensation claim. We advise that you make the claim straight after the accident as all events will still be fresh to the claimant and leaving it to the last few months could result in a mistrial where the third parties insurance company would continue to drag the claims process through the three year time period.
Reporting your injury - Do not report your injury to the highway authority until you have taken photographs and visited your local doctor or hospital regarding your injuries. The authority may repair the scene before all the evidence is gathered, taking away your chances of claiming compensation.
Slipping over ice - unfortunately you can not claim for slipping over ice or snow as this is an act of god unless it's water which a shopkeeper or someone from the local authority has spilled and frozen over. This would state them of being negligent and producing a dangerous environment for the public to travel on.
